Bolt-On Honda 1.6/1.7/1.8/2.0 liter Crank Trigger Wheel & Pulley Package
Racing Version
The Honda Trigger Wheel and Pulley Package is intended for the following applications:
- '90-'00 Integra 1.7/1.8 liter DOHC
- '94-'97 Del Sol 1.6 liter DOHC
- '97-'01 CRV 2.0 liter DOHC
- '99-'00 Civic Si 1.6 liter DOHC
Congratulations on your purchase of the Electromotive Honda Trigger Wheel and Pulley Package! For optimum reliability, we recommend using the lower timing belt gear from a 1996 or newer application. These can be distinguished from the earlier versions because the "key" is machined into the gear, rather than being a separate piece. Please note that this kit is intended for vehicles that are only utilizing an alternator.
Power steering pumps and air conditioning compressors cannot be driven with this kit.

Necessary Tools / Parts:
- Basic hand tools to remove belts from engine
- 10mm wrench
- 19mm (or ¾") socket & breaker bar
- Loctite© 242 medium strength threadlocker or equivalent
-
Shorter alternator belt (can be purchased from any auto parts store that stocks Gates Brand belts) - see below:
- 1990-93 Integra: Gates K040292 (Alternate K040290)
- All other applications: Gates K040285
Directions:
- Loosen alternator bolts and remove alternator belt.
- If running A/C and power steering, remove those belts as well. Note that the bracketry for the A/C compressor may also need to be removed for some applications.
- Unbolt and remove crankshaft pulley from crankshaft. Do not lose the key.
- Install new trigger wheel/pulley assembly (with key) onto crankshaft. The trigger wheel should be facing away from the engine and the pulley toward the engine.
- Thread the bolt into crankshaft. Tighten bolt to approximately 130lb-ft.
- Remove bolt from oil pump housing (see Fig. 1). This requires a 10mm wrench.
- Position engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the #1 cylinder. It does not matter whether it is TDC compression or exhaust.
- Install the magnetic sensor bracket over the hole for the bolt removed in step 6. Put Loctite© 242 (or equivalent) on screw #6. Install screw #6 to fasten the bracket to the engine block. Only make the screw "snug" so that you can pivot the bracket.
- Slide the magnetic sensor into the sensor bracket.
- Rotate the sensor bracket so that the center of the sensor is aligned with the trailing edge of the 11th tooth on the crank trigger (see Fig. 2).
- Slide the magnetic sensor back out of the bracket, being careful not to rotate the bracket. Tighten the bolt attaching the bracket to the engine to approximately 8 ft-lb. It will be necessary to hold the bracket with a pair of pliers to prevent it from spinning.
- Slide the sensor back into the bracket and install one or both of the set screws (#7) into the bracket, once again using Loctite© 242. Do not tighten the set screws.
- Ensuring that the center of the sensor is pointed directly at one of the teeth on the trigger wheel, insert a feeler gauge between the sensor and tooth.
- Lightly push on the sensor to "sandwich" the feeler gauge, then tighten the set screw(s) on the sensor bracket. The set screw(s) do not need to be extremely tight in order for the sensor to stay in place. The sensor gap should now be .060 to .030". Adjusting the sensor outside this range will cause a poor crank sensor input to your Electromotive unit.
- Run the magnetic sensor wire away from moving engine parts and connect it to the Electromotive unit on your vehicle. Make sure that the sensor wire does not have any sharp bends, as this may damage the wire.
- Install the new alternator belt and set to proper Honda tension specs.
- Tighten all bolts loosened in steps #1 and #2.
Following successful installation of the Honda Trigger Wheel and Pulley Package, you will have an ultra-high resolution crank sensor signal going into the Electromotive computer on your vehicle. Should you need any technical support in your installation, please feel free to contact us.
