Directions:
- Remove the crankshaft pulley. Clean the front of the engine thoroughly.
- Locate the 6mm Phillips head machine screw to the right of the engine seal, which holds the fan tin to the engine block. Remove this screw and trim the sheet metal to fit the sensor bracket.
- Install the sensor bracket using the 6mm cap screw and ¼" washer provided. Insert the magnetic sensor into the bracket. Do not tighten either at this time.
- Install the Scat pulley with the trigger wheel onto the crankshaft. Orient the sensor and bracket so that the center of the tip of the magnetic sensor is aimed at the beveled flat on the trigger wheel. With the engine at TDC #1, align the sensor with the trailing edge of the 11th tooth after the missing teeth.
- Tighten the sensor bracket (but not the sensor).
- Adjust the sensor so that the air gap between the trigger wheel and sensor tip is about 0.030" (+/-0.005"). Tighten the setscrew once the proper trigger gap is established. Use of a low strength thread locker is recommended.
Special note on distributor removal:
When the distributor is removed from the VW engine, you will need to be aware that the distributor drive shaft stays in the block; this drive shaft is also used to operate the mechanical fuel pump. If you have also removed the mechanical fuel pump, be sure to remove, not only the distributor drive shaft, but also the shims that are in the block. These shims are under the distributor drive shaft, and can be removed with a magnet. Plug the distributor hole with the plug that is provided with this kit.
Following successful installation of the Volkswagen Trigger Wheel Package, you will have an ultra-high resolution crank sensor signal going into the Electromotive computer on your vehicle. Should you need any technical support in your installation, please feel free to contact us.
